Swallow a Camel?

You’ve probably heard of “eating crow” but what about swallowing a camel? Eating crow is the bitter experience of having to admit you were wrong after you insisted that you were right. It’s humbling and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. But swallowing a camel is even worse. It happens when you violate your heart and neglect your core values and the try to pretend like “it’s all good.” And you know it’s not because your guts are being stretched out by guilt. And no matter how hard you try to cover it up with good deeds you still look like a snake with the silhouette of a camel in the middle. Hypocrisy can not be hidden. You may be able to cover it for a while but you’ll always know in your own heart and it will eat your guts out. Because you’ve done something that contradicts your own convictions and you can’t pass it, you can only confess it. And your heart will break and your stomach ache, until you make it right with yourself and with God. When you do what’s right, life is good and you feel right, but when you do what’s wrong, you swallow a camel that will give you pain life long. So don’t just pretend to be right or you’ll probably end up eating crow and camel. But actually make it good and true on the inside and when it’s good on the inside it will show up on the outside.

Matt 23:23-28
23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. 24 Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

1 John 1:9-10

Rom 5:17
17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
