Totter to Slaughter?

We all bumble and stumble at times but if we refuse correction we will “totter to the slaughter.” Every time we justify our mistakes we lower our standards and thus begin tottering down a slippery slope. At the end of the slant lies the slaughter. The Spirit within will apprise that we are blundering to our own demise, and not only ours, but anyone who follows, we lead to the gallows. The only way to regain our footing is to acknowledge our error and the only way to save the others is to inform them also. We will either live in humility or die in our pride. Each of us will give an account to God, not only for ourselves but also for those who chose to follow.

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after.

Mary Jane was out in the lane
Hanging up the clothes.
She called for Nell to ring the bell
'Cause Jack and Jill were dying.

God is the Deliverer, His Word is the Way, if we acknowledge where we’ve gone astray, His Spirit will help us without delay. But if we refuse, we’re like Humpty up on the wall, if we totter to slaughter then we will soon fall. So Lord, please help us not all come tumbling down, but to do what’s right and retain our crown.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

James 3:2-3
2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
NKJV

Prov 24:11
1 Deliver those who are drawn toward death,
And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.
NKJV

Prov 24:11
11 Deliver those who are drawn away to death, and those who totter to the slaughter, hold them back [from their doom].
AMP

Prov 12:1
12 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge,
But he who hates correction is stupid.
NKJV

Ps 119:165
165 Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.
NKJV

Mark 4:16-18
16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they stumble.
NKJV

John 16:1
16 "These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.
NKJV

Mark 9:42
42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.
NKJV

1 Cor 8:9-13
9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? 11 And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
NKJV

Rom 14:12-13
12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way.
NKJV

1 John 2:10-11
10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
NKJV

1 Peter 2:1-3
2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,

"Behold, I lay in Zion
A chief cornerstone, elect, precious,
And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."

7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,

"The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone,"

8 and

"A stone of stumbling
And a rock of offense."

They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
NKJV

2 Peter 1:2-11
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
NKJV

Ps 73:2, 16-17, 21-26
2 But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled;
My steps had nearly slipped.

16 When I thought how to understand this,
It was too painful for me —
17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their end.
NKJV

21 Thus my heart was grieved,
And I was vexed in my mind.
22 I was so foolish and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
23 Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
24 You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.

25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
26 My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
NKJV

Jude 24-25
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
25 To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Amen.
NKJV
