Arrogant or Example

Sometimes the hardest thing to take is a slice of your own advice. If you could see your situation from the outside what would you tell you to do? You have to separate yourself from the emotion of the moment and make your decision based on love and logic. It’s always easier to tell someone else what to do because you’re not feeling the pressure of their problems. But if you can un-relate with yourself for a moment you’ll probably know what exactly what to do. Usually the problem isn’t that you don’t know what to do but that you don’t really want to do what you know. It’s easy to dream but it takes discipline to actually achieve. In order to receive what you believe you have to pray and follow the Lord day by day. This is easier said then done because the Holy Spirit is your personal trainer and is usually more concerned with your results then your comfort and contentment. “Now you do what you have to, so later you can do what you want to.” This is sound wisdom but most people just want to do what they want to do without paying any price. Well if you don’t pay then who’s going to? Jesus did pay the ultimate price and gave His life but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left for you to do. You could at least leave a tip and you can’t just mooch off Him forever. He gave you Life but now you have to live it. It’s true it’s a gift but you still have to operate it. If someone gives you a brand new car it doesn’t mean that there’s nothing left for you to do. You still must fill it, maintain it, drive it and follow the rules of the road. If not you’ll end up in a crash and wonder what happened to this “new Life.” Well you probably failed to steer expecting God to do it for you. But He’s not going to, He’ll’ do it through you and with you but not without. There’s no such thing as auto pilot, it’s our life and only you can live it. So the next time you’re thinking about sharing your great wisdom and solving everyone else’s problems why don’t you solve some of your own? Because it’s one thing to be a preacher and almost anyone can do it but another thing entirely to be an example.

John 13:12-17
12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

1 Tim 4:12-16
12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
