Praying in the Spirit gives us peace and assurance. We seem to be created with the inherent knowledge that prayer is powerful. It’s an awesome privilege to have access to speak with the Almighty. It’s especially wonderful when we know that He loves us and said that He would always be there to help us. They say, “Good help is hard to find these days.” But the best and most powerful help; that is God himself is always as close as our next breath. We have access to unlimited power but we don’t know exactly how to orchestrate it. When we ask God for things we must realize that He will manifest the answer in a way that’s harmonious with the balance of everything in the universe. In other words it’s not His desire to answer the prayer of one person to the detriment of others. That would be counter productive in His great plan because His will is for the good of all. He’s not just the agent of solo singers but the Author of everything. When we ask Him to make our melody He doesn’t stop the whole show but begins to work us into the symphony with perfect precision. Many times we wonder why our prayers don’t get answered “exactly the way that we thought that they should” but surely we must realize that we are not the only people on earth. Imagine what a mess it would be if the Conductor started following the “conductees”.
Our weakness is revealed, “We do not know what to pray for as we ought” (Rom 8:26) just like musicians don’t know what to play as they ought. Each person only knows their part but God is the Orchestrator of everything. So He helps us pray in the Spirit and intercede according to His will so that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Rom 8:28) Not that some things would work together for the good of the ONE, but so that all things work together for the good of ALL who are called according to His purpose.
So this brings up the subject of praying in the Spirit. Like music is the language of the soul praying in tongues is the language of the Spirit. Good music doesn’t generally come from the mind nor do you interpret it with your mind likewise good prayer does not come from the mind but from the spirit and in interpreted by the same. Most people would like to have the gift to play well, to move the soul, but only some do. However every child of God can receive the gift to pray well, to move and be moved by the Spirit of the Almighty. Praying in the Spirit is the like song of the Spirit and the main requirement is a desire to “sing.”(Jn 4:24) This gift has become uncomfortable and controversial to some because the enemy would rather have us, “JUST SHUT UP!” Because singing lifts the soul and praying in the Spirit edifies and lifts the Spirit. And it also helps us pray in perfect harmony with God’s will and gives us peace and assurance knowing our requests are being “written in” by the Author of everything.
If you desire to receive this great gift you may if you are a child of God. When you received Jesus as Lord you were also equipped with the ability to pray in the Spirit. If you will receive the gift of His Spirit He will enable you to pray in this supernatural way. You simply say, “Lord I receive your Spirit now please help me pray.” Then you yield to the sounds that come from within. When you pray in the Spirit your spirit prays so these sounds are coming from your spirit not being formulated in your mind. You don’t pray in English or whatever you natural language is any more than you play music in English, these are the sounds of the Spirit. It’s the language of heaven. You don’t comprehend it with your mind but you understand it by the Spirit. And like music moves your soul this prayer moves your spirit and you harmonize with the whole of heaven!
1 Cor 14:2-3
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
NKJV
1 Cor 14:14-16
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
NKJV
Acts 2:4
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
NKJV
1 Cor 14:2-3
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
NKJV
1 Cor 14:14-16
14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.

Jude 20-21
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
NKJV
1 Cor 2:6-16
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written:
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For "who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
